The Path to Transfer

Trial Visit to the School
Your child will spend two typical school days with us, get to know the environment, the teachers, and new classmates, and see how things really work here. At the same time, we’ll get a natural sense of their knowledge (Czech, English, and math) as well as how they collaborate, think, and function within a group. At the end, we’ll discuss together whether we’re a good fit for our school environment.
English and Czech
We welcome children who can communicate naturally and fluently in both Czech and English so they can fully take advantage of our environment. The ideal entry level for both languages is B1, but at minimum A2 (the typical level of English at the end of 5th grade).
Montessori Experience as an Advantage
It is an advantage if a child has experience with a Montessori environment. However, this is not a requirement. What is important is that your child has a desire to explore the world, collaborate, be independent, and take responsibility. Then they will feel right at home with us.
Meeting with Parents
A personal meeting with parents is an important part of the admissions process. During an open discussion with us, we’ll work together to determine whether your family’s values, expectations, and needs align with what Duhovka has to offer.

Everything You Need to Know About the Transition to Middle School

Will my child be able to keep up with the curriculum at the new school?
Yes. The Montessori approach respects each child’s individual pace and builds on their prior knowledge. During the first few weeks, we observe where a child needs support and, if necessary, help them develop the skills they need to feel confident. Our goal is to make the transition to upper elementary as natural and smooth as possible.
How will my child fit into the new class?
Successful adaptation is our top priority. In 6th grade, a new class community is formed. The children engage in activities together that foster mutual understanding and cooperation, helping them quickly feel like part of the class and find new friends. In October, we go on a school trip, where, with the support of the school psychologist, we strengthen friendships and ensure a smooth start in the new class.
Does the child have to be “excellent” in all subjects?
No. We are primarily interested in the child’s potential, their attitude toward learning, and their ability to function in a group. Tests are one of our guidelines, not the sole criterion.
What if a child has no experience with a Montessori school?
Previous Montessori education is an advantage, not a requirement. During the trial days, children will become familiar with this method of learning and try it out. It is important that the child is open to new experiences.
How do you work with children from bilingual or international backgrounds?
Children from bilingual families are welcome here. We have extensive experience with children whose native language is not Czech, and when assessing their language skills, we always take into account each child’s individual background. By the time they reach middle school, however, it is important that they have a good command of Czech and are able to learn in that language.
